Dow Seeks Longest Winning Streak Since the Volcker Era

Last time the Dow climbed for 13 straight days, "The Cosby Show" was TV's hottest program, the Lawrence Taylor-led Giants were en route to a Super Bowl and Paul Volcker was in the last year of his inflation-taming tenure at the Federal Reserve. Today, the blue-chip index is seeking its longest winning streak since January 1987. Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who has cited Volcker's playbook in the latest fight against price pressures, could help decide whether it finishes in the green. Many investors this afternoon will be glued to Powell's press conference for any whiff of the notion that the Fed's widely expected rate hike today will be its last. But the central banker often channels his inner Volcker in such appearances with hawkish rhetoric suggesting more tightening could be needed to slow inflation. DJIA
